Port River offers excellent sailing in sheltered waters that is both safe for beginners and challenging for experienced sailors with excellent viewing for spectators.
Port River Sailing Club (PRSC) SA is a family oriented Club that organises racing for dinghies and off-the-beach classes from Clubrooms located at Snowden Beach, on the Port River, Port Adelaide.
A strong emphasis is placed on keeping Club overheads low. Volunteers carry out a multitude of tasks. This helps to keep PRSC fees amongst the lowest of City sailing clubs, maintaining the intent of the Club founders to make sailing available to everyone. A canteen is operated to provide food and drink to members and visitors, while a social barbecue is held after sailing each week. The Clubrooms are located close to the sailing courses, allowing unparalleled viewing of the competition on the water as well as the passing parade of shipping and our good friends, the Port River dolphins.

Sailing is conducted at PRSC from 2 pm on Saturday afternoons. Over the years a range of off the beach classes have raced, including in Paper Tiger catamarans, Fireballs, 125s, OK Dinghies, Hartley TS16s, Sabres, Herons and Holdfast Trainers. The largest and most competitive class sailing at present is the one person Sabre.

The Club also has a number of 420’s and 470’s for training purposes as well as for racing.

The season commences in early October and continues through to March. Training runs from 11 am on Saturday mornings. The Club is a strong supporter of the SA Secondary Schools Team Racing, where our facilities are used by up to 20 school teams, with six sailors in each team, on three or more Sundays each season.
Recently a fleet of remote control yachts have joined the Club, with “thumb sailors” racing their boats from the shade of the Club balcony every second Wednesday during the sailing season.
Environment Values
We have a keen interest in the environmental well-being of the Port River, and greatly value its bird and marine life, including the unique River dolphin. We ensure that no Club activities have any adverse impact on the River environment
